Five people brought to safety by RNLI Llandudno lifeboat

A group of three adults and two children were brought to safety by the RNLI Llandudno on Friday afternoon (8 April) after their motor cruiser suffered engine failure in Llandudno bay.

The party, from Congleton in Cheshire, were aboard the 28′ cruiser Elise enjoying a trip along the coast from Conwy when the problem arose. After anchoring near the resort’s pier the skipper called up Holyhead Coastguard to ask for assistance, and as a result Llandudno’s RNLI relief all-weather lifeboat Fisherman’s Friend launched shortly afterwards.

The RNLI lifeboat mechanic was quickly transferred to the Elise to assess the situation and to provide reassurance to the group. The lifeboat crew then rigged a towline and took the disabled boat in tow round Great Orme’s Head, into the River Conwy, and then into Conwy marina where it was safely berthed with all five of its occupants safe and well.

The lifeboat returned to Llandudno for recovery and refuelling, which was completed by 6.30pm.
