Fixed penalty notice issued in Broughton for dog fouling offence

A Fixed Penalty Notice has been issued in Broughton for a dog fouling offence, with a fine of £75.

It was issued on Saturday 11 March, and is the latest of several tickets issued for dog fouling offences in Flintshire.

Broughton is one of a number of areas that have set up a ‘dog watch scheme’ which has involved local residents, who are fed up with dog fouling, working together with the Council and North Wales Police to patrol their own communities, handing out bags to dog walkers and making them aware of the legislation relating to this area.

Councillor Dennis Hutchinson, Executive Member for Leisure and Public Protection, said:

“This penalty notice complements the work of the ‘dog watch scheme’, by catching a local resident who failed to pick up after their dog. We want this to send out a clear message to other residents that this type of offence will not be tolerated in the county. We want everyone to know that we have a ‘zero tolerance’ approach when it comes to dog fouling in Flintshire.”

Local County Councillor Billy Mullin said:

“Local councillors in Broughton, including myself, Cllr Derek Butler and Cllr Mike Lowe have long campaigned against dog fouling in our community. The community council has, for many years, part-funded the Police Community Support Officer, and we are grateful for PCSO Jason Knowles having issued the first ticket in Broughton.

“As school governors, we are concerned about the state of the pavements and this fine is a positive move.”
