Flint Castle Communities First AGM

All residents and organisations in Flint Castle are being invited to attend the Annual General Meeting of the ward’s Communities First.

The AGM takes place at 6 pm on Wednesday 7 July at the River Dee Community Church, Castle Street Flint.

There will be a chance to hear about the achievements of Communities First in 2009/ 10 and to have a say in who should be elected onto the Partnership Board for the coming year.

The guest speakers will look at aspects of Flint Castle – Past, Present and Future. Vicky Perfect, who is the Key Keeper, will speak about the role of the Castle in the history of the town. Rebecca Alfonso, Regeneration Officer at Flintshire County Council, will talk about future plans to develop the potential of the Castle as an asset to the town.

Michelle Turner, Chair of the Partnership Board, said:

‘This last year Communities First has started a number of new projects in response to the needs of this community in these challenging times.

A Jobsfair, organised jointly with Job Centre Plus, was really well attended – 468 people came to get help finding jobs and accessing the training and support needed to become ‘job ready’.

We’ve also got a Moneysaver’s Club, which provides advice and information to residents on money management, the best ways of saving for Christmas and how to avoid debt.

And we were delighted to receive a ‘Green Heroes’ Award from the environmental charity, British Trust for Conservation Volunteers. This Award recognised our ability to work in partnership and to involve local people in environmental projects.”

Flint Castle Communities First will soon be relocating to 46 Church Street. This will be a great opportunity to engage more effectively with local residents, support them to develop their potential and to create stronger, more active communities.
