Roads and gritting
The Council is gritting priority routes again tonight. We are presently dealing with several roads which have become hazardous / blocked by windblown snow.
Some slight to moderate snow is forecast in the early hours of tomorrow morning, particularly in the south of the County. There is a possibility of some drifting on exposed roads but the wind is due to ease by dawn.
Flintshire have been allocated 700 tonnes of salt from the Salt Cell over the next three days which should enable existing salting arrangements to continue through to the weekend when slightly milder weather is forecast.
Ice on minor roads and footpaths is generally being treated with chippings and sharp sand to help traction and minimise the risk of slipping.
Whilst the slightly warmer daytime temperatures are providing some thawing conditions in places, more sub-zero nightly temperatures are forecast for the remainder of the week.
Waste and re-cycling
Domestic waste
Tuesday refuse collections (black sack) have taken place as normal on scheduled routes but we are still having difficulty gaining access to iced-up cul de sacs across the County. We have specific access difficulties in areas of Holywell which are unsafe at this time to access.
Collections have taken place in Flint Mountain today with the exception of Pentre Hill which was too icy.
Domestic waste from Treuddyn, Rhyd Talog, Coed Talon and parts of Pontybodkin was collected using an additional crew.
There have also been collections in Hafod y Bryn, Brynford along with the villages of Cymau and Ffrith.
Wednesday 13 January
Wednesday’s scheduled collections will take place, weather permitting, and some ‘mopping up’ of Tuesday’s schedule in several areas.
The delayed service through Queensferry, along with properties below the Coast Road through Shotton and Connah’s Quay will take place on Wednesday.
Saltney Ferry, specifically Ewart Street and North Street area, will be covered tomorrow as will Llanfynydd and Cefn y Bedd.
Recycling Services
Recycling crews will be working on Wednesday’s scheduled collections and we are still experiencing difficulties on the more rural rounds.
Drivers of vehicles will decide locally across all service areas on the accessibility of roads as many are still iced up.
There are still many areas in the rural community we have not been able to access and we apologise for this but assure residents that we will resume normal services as soon as we are able to do so.
All eight of the Council’s re-cycling parks are open as normal.
For further information on waste collection or re-cycling please see the Council’s web site or contact 01352 703350.
Sheltered Housing Schemes
We are aware of the difficulties people face getting around sheltered schemes and in and out of their homes. Footpaths in schemes are being treated with limestone grit to improve their safety. Residents must note that this grit will not melt the snow and ice, but will improve ‘grip’. People should be very careful when walking on paths treated in this way.
