Today is International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO) and to celebrate Cardiff Council will be flying rainbow flags at City Hall, County Hall and at Cardiff Castle.
IDAHO calls for respect and dignity for Lesbians, Gay men, Bisexual and Transgender people and is an opportunity for individuals and organisations to stand up against homophobia. The event first began in 2004 and is now celebrated across the world.
At 10am this morning, Executive Member for Housing, Communities and Social Justice, Cllr Judith Woodman along with Liz Morgan, Director of Stonewall Cymru, together raised a rainbow flag at City Hall.
Rainbow flags are a symbol of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender pride.
Along with raising rainbow flags at prominent council buildings, the council’s equality team will be handing out promotional material about the day.
Executive Member for Housing, Communities and Social Justice, Cllr Judith Woodman, said: “As a council we are committed to equality for all, our aim is to create a city that allows everyone to be themselves and which shows respect to everyone.
“As an employer we have also made a commitment to create an equal opportunity environment and we were recently named in the Stonewall list of Britain’s top 100 employers for Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual employees.”
