Tee off Fore Armed Forces Day

Armed Forces Day 2010 will be held in Cardiff on June 26 and a number of events are planned across the whole week leading up to Armed Forces Day, including the Armed Forces Golfing Tournament. The tournament will take place on June 23 at Cottrell Park Golf Club in honour of Armed Forces Day 2010.

The golf tournament is open to Armed Forces personnel past and present, including cadets and personnel working within the MOD .The day will feature both individual and team competitions. The three Armed Services Golf Unions, Regimental Associations, Cadets, Regimental Golf Unit societies and the Merchant Navy will all take part.

Cottrell Park is home to, two 18-hole courses and the club has kindly agreed to sponsor the day by waiving the green fees.

The team match will be dedicated to the Richard Hunt foundation, Richard was the 200th member of the Armed Services to die as a result of wounds received in Afghanistan, and the individual stableford competition is being sponsored by the Royal British Legion.

Tickets for the tournament are £20, which will include 18 holes of golf,  coffee and bacon rolls on arrival,  Hog roast Buffet and a presentation to the lucky winners.

Other events planned during the week leading up to Armed Forces day, are a flag raising ceremony on June 21st and the arrival of HMS Kent into Cardiff on Thursday 24th of June.

Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Brian Griffiths, said: “A full programme of events are planned for Armed Forces Day including a parade, Drumhead Service, live music and fly past. The week leading up to Armed Forces Day will be as jam-packed as the day itself, with the golf tournament being a great way for Armed Forces personnel to socialise ahead of the big day on the 26th.

“I would like to thank Dave Morris from the Armed Forces Day Committee, in organising the tournament and also Cotterell Park for sponsoring the day.”

“Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for the public to show their support for the men and women of our Armed Forces. The Cottrell Park Gold Tournament is a great way to demonstrate this support, and I thank everyone involved with creating this event.”
