With just over a week ahead of the annual Caerphilly Food Festival, final preparations are underway to make the annual event one of the best yet when it descends on Caerphilly town centre on Saturday 10th May.

The Caerphilly Cheese mascot joined Caerphilly County Borough Council’s events team today to launch a new cheese rolling competition that will take place at the food festival.

Synonymous with the town and castle, Caerphilly Cheese is an iconic part of Caerphilly and now residents and visitors alike have the opportunity to grab a slice of the action by entering the cheese rolling competition.

The competition will take place on Castle Street in the shadows of the medieval castle and one of Caerphilly’s most famous sons, Tommy Cooper…”Just like that!” Cheese truckles are at the ready as this fun activity is one not to be missed.

The competition will run throughout the event (10am – 5pm) with up to six people able to join the challenge at a time.

The event will coincide with the launch of a new range of Caws Cenarth artisan cheeses including a tradition Caws Caerffili, as well as a range of other tasty choices, which are on sale at The Visit Caerphilly Centre.  For more information visit http://your.caerphilly.gov.uk/foodfestival or call the event hotline on 029 2088 0011.

The event is part funded by the Welsh Government.
