Food for thought

A group of future care workers from Coleg Gwent made their actions count recently – collecting up food items for vulnerable people in their local community.

Health and social care students based at Ebbw Vale Campus delivered parcels of tinned food donated by Coleg Gwent staff and students to the Trussell Trust’s Ebbw Vale Foodbank.

With the help of volunteers and care professionals, the project ensures donated food items go to where they are most needed in communities.

The group raised awareness of the Trussell Trust’s Foodbank Project at the Campus to encourage staff and other students to donate, and were also interviewed about their work on local radio station Mountain FM.

Lecturer Alison Southcott said: “A big thank you to all those who supported my students with their foodbank event.

“A lot of food was donated and students delivered the food personally to Festival Church where the foodbank is based.

“It was fantastic for the students to learn that by taking part in the project, they were making a real difference to people on their doorstep.”
