Former Mines Rescue Centre

On 20th August 2010, unauthorised works of demolition were undertaken at the Former Mine’s Rescue Centre, Maesgwyn Road, Wrexham, a Grade II Listed Building.

The Council are currently gathering evidence which can be used to bring prosecution proceedings against the owner of the property. The condition of the building since the works were undertaken is also a matter of concern to the Council and temporary works are now required to ensure that the damaged elements of the building are maintained in a sound, secure and weather-tight condition to prevent any further deterioration in its condition over the winter months.

Should the owner be unwilling to undertake these works, the Council will consider serving an Urgent Works Notice on the owner of the property to ensure that these necessary works are carried out.

Cllr Phil Wynn, Member for Brynffynnon said:

“I hope that the onwer acknowleges the building’s historical and cultural importance. The Mines Rescue Centre is an important part of Wrexham’s heritage and we hope the owner carriers out the these essential works as soon as possible to ensure that this historical building does not deteriotate any further.”
