The Chair of Flintshire County Council has helped to celebrate a landmark birthday at a special time of year.

Mrs Sarah (Sally) Timson celebrated her 100th birthday at her home in Garden City on 21 December.

She was born in 1913 at Totton in Nottinghamshire and spent her early years growing up in a farming community. Sally married her husband Tim in 1936 and during the war they worked for Bees Nurseries in Liverpool and in Sealand and were in charge of the seed propagation programme for the Ministry of Agriculture as part of the war effort.

In 1954 they took over the tenancy of the Stags Head, Newport in Lincoln where they stayed for 21 years, retiring in 1975.

After her husband Tim died, Mrs Timson moved to Garden City in 1993, to be nearer to her family.

She enjoys shopping, weekly visits to the hairdressers and going out for lunch in the countryside. Her cooking is still legendary particularly her cakes and jams.

Councillor Carolyn Thomas said:

“Sally is a truly inspirational, smart and intelligent lady; it is hard to believe she is one hundred years old. It was an absolute delight to spend time with Sally and her family and I felt honoured to be invited.”
