Free fun for kids in, under, on and out of the water for half term in Rhondda Cynon Taff

Children in Rhondda Cynon Taf can enjoy a fun-packed half term – with a fantastic range of free activities on offer in local leisure centres and swimming pools.

Youngsters aged 16 and under and their families can enjoy free swimming, organised pool activities and free indoor activities in Rhondda Cynon Taf’s leisure centres from Monday, October 26 – Friday, October 30.

Centres will be offering free High 5 ‘dry side’ activities from 10am-5pm, including football, badminton, hockey and baseball. Free swims will also be offered to all children and their parents from 11am-5.00pm, Monday to Friday, at all RCT pools.

Aberdare Pool is offering junior learn to swim classes for beginners, improvers and for children with disabilities, as well as snorkelling, canoeing, water polo and rookie lifesaving.

There will also be ASA pre-competitive start award classes in diving, and free snooker.

Hawthorn Pool has ‘Come and try canoeing’ from Monday, October 26-Thursday, October 29, from 10-11am and scuba diving on Friday, October 30 from 10-12pm.

All children must be eight years of age and over and a parent or guardian must be present during the time the child is in the pool. A participation statement must be completed. Places are limited, so please book early.

Bronwydd Pool is also offering scuba diving from 3.30-5.30pm on Friday, October 30.

Abercynon Sports Centre is offering free swimming lessons for beginners and improvers; rookie lifesaving, snorkelling and ‘dry side’ activities.

Cllr Robert Bevan, Cabinet Member for Culture and Recreation, Rhondda Cynon Taf, said: “We are encouraging children and their families to come along during the half-term holiday and enjoy what’s on offer – it’s absolutely free.”

Activities on offer vary in each leisure centre and pool, so please contact your local centre to check what’s available and when.
