A French student has volunteered to work with North Wales Police in a bid to improve his use and understanding of the English Language and to gain an insight and experience of information technology within the police.
Alexis Valee, 18, from Normandy, is on work experience in the Central Division for six weeks and has already spent time with the Neighbourhood Policing Teams in Llandudno, Colwyn Bay and St Asaph.
He has family living in the Conwy area and after spending time here he chose to do his work placement in North Wales, as he claims he loves the people, the beautiful countryside, the mountains and the sea and he hopes to work for an English speaking country within Information Technology.
“I really enjoyed spending time out in the community with the PCSO’s. In France we do not have PCSO’s,” he said, stating that the police in France do not have the same opportunities to spend as much time within the actual community.
He has also visited the airbase and enjoyed the opportunity of looking inside the helicopter especially seeing how the police computer system works, and how all the various policing areas are linked within one computer system.
“I hope to get out the whole experience an improvement in my understanding and use of the English language as well as to gain experience and an understanding into how information technology helps in the running of the police force,” said Alexis, who admits that he is looking forward to gaining a greater understanding of the RMS system and how the police utilise computer programmes.
“I have felt very comfortable and relaxed around the staff within the police,” he said, adding that he would enjoy working within the Police Information Technology Departments as a career in the future.
Sergeant Julie Williams, the Central Volunteer/Special/Cadet Co-ordinator said:
“North Wales Police value the excellent work and commitment given by our volunteers in helping their communities as part of our extended policing family.”
“Staff within Central Division have particularly enjoyed the experience of working with Alexis and the opportunity to gain a greater understanding in the differences regarding policing within other European countries as well as the opportunity to practice our use of the French language which has been fun.”
“I would like to thank Alexis for his enthusiasm and interest in North Wales Police and if anyone is interested in joining the volunteer team then please contact me for details,” added Sgt Williams.
