Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has made a fresh call for guidance from the Welsh Government on library closures in North Wales.
Kinmel Bay and Cerrigydrudion are just two of the libraries facing the axe under a review by Conwy County Borough Council. Speaking in the Senedd this week, Darren Millar called upon the Welsh Government to issue guidance to local Councils to ensure that libraries like Kinmel Bay and Cerrigydrudion stay open.
When asked to comment Darren said:
‘The closure of Kinmel Bay and Cerrigydrudion libraries would be a real blow for local residents. They are important facilities for the local community.
‘There is a need for guidance from the Minister in this area.
‘Kinmel Bay and Cerrigydrudion have been defined as deprived areas in terms of educational attainment and income levels. Libraries serving areas like this should receive extra protection from closure.
‘The campaign to save these libraries has gained real support and I will be keeping up the fight to ensure that they stay open.’
