Wythnos Ni – celebrating Gwynedd’s families

A week of varied events will be held throughout Gwynedd once again to celebrate the place that the county’s children, young people and families hold in our society.

The third Gwynedd Children and Young People’s Week – Wythnos Ni – will take place between 19 and 26 October 2011 and will be marked with activities across the county. The week has been arranged by the Gwynedd Children and Young People’s Partnership and was officially launched on Friday, 23 September.

A series of activities have been arranged across Gwynedd to celebrate Wythnos Ni from 19 to 26 October. To start the week a conference highlighting the Breaking the Cycle scheme will be held – an innovative scheme which supports the most vulnerable families in our society – will be held at Bangor on Wednesday, 19 October.

Iwan Trefor Jones, Chairman of the Gwynedd Children and Young People’s Partnership said: “Wythnos Ni has developed into an important event in the calendar for Gwynedd’s children, young people and families. Again this year, the week-long schedule of events across the county will provide an opportunity to highlight the excellent work being undertaken in response to the needs of Gwynedd’s children, young people and families.

“The week will get underway with a conference highlighting the innovative Breaking the Cycle scheme which is led by Gwynedd Council – the first scheme of its kind in Wales. Its aim is to support vulnerable families who face a cycle of social problems, crime, ill-health and neglect, by ensuring improved planning by public agencies so that they can get to the root of the problem.”

Councillor Brian Jones, who leads on children and young people’s matters on Gwynedd Council added: “Wythnos Ni 2011 will give Gwynedd’s children and young people a platform in a series of events throughout the county. The week will also provide an opportunity to celebrate the county’s families and will be a great opportunity to get families to come together and enjoy the fun activities we have on offer.

“Our aim as a Council is to ensure that Gwynedd’s children and families have access to the best opportunities in life – and Wythnos Ni will be a fantastic opportunity to promote the excellent work undertaken locally in responding to the needs and aspirations of the county’s young people.”
