On the 18th July pews will be making way for plates as one valleys church throws open its doors and transforms itself into a pop-up restaurant known as The Parish Pantry.

St Dingat’s Church in the Parish of Bedwellty and New Tredegar ill become a home away from home for The Secret Supperclwb chef Emma Evans. Emma, who comes fresh from the 2014 finals of Sky Living’s My Kitchen Rules has been out in the Caerphilly countryside hunting down the best seasonal produce and is determined to cook up something out of this world – no mean feat in a building without a functioning kitchen!

Emma said, “Pop-up restaurants are always a challenge, it’s why I love doing them, but some are more tricky than others and The Parish Pantry is the hardest yet!”

Emma continued, “The menu is full of great food, I really had no idea Caerphilly had so much to offer, from prize pork, vegetables, coffee makers and even chocolates, I just had to get creative to design a menu that uses ovens and hobs as little as possible.  It’s great to be involved in something like The Parish Pantry that will help some really great projects including the church and foodbank and gives us a chance to also promote local food.”

Food won’t be the only thing on the menu, local singer-songwriter and guitarist, Maddie Jones, winner of Cardiff Big Gig 2013 will be taking a break from recording her debut album and treating diners to her intoxicating blend of gypsy, folk, roots, jazz and soul.

Revd. Dr. Rosie Dymond, Vicar of the Parish of Bedwellty and New Tredegar said “The Parish Pantry is a joint venture between the Parish and Caerphilly Cwm a Mynydd Rural Development Plan and it’s a first for the area!  It’s a great way to show off what Caerphilly can offer and everyone who buys a ticket and comes to the event will be contributing funds to help us continue to combat poverty, support families and children in crisis and to help them get back on their feet.”

The Parish Pantry is a great evening out for everyone, with fabulous food, excellent entertainment and all for a good cause!
