Full of life at fifty plus

Staying safe, active and healthy while growing older will come under the spotlight at two special events held during the week beginning 21st  June.

Fishguard and Tenby leisure centres will be hosting Full of Life at 50+ activity and information days.

The events take place at Fishguard Leisure Centre on Wednesday 23rd June and at Tenby Leisure Centre on Thursday 24th June between 10am and 4pm.

Participants will have the opportunity to take part in free activities such as tai chi, pilates, gentle keep fit, aqua fit and Nordic walking.

They will also be able to get advice and information from a wide range of agencies on subjects such as home safety, home adaptations, healthy eating, community learning, pensions, volunteering and local groups.

The Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service will also be on hand to test electric blankets, while staff from Pembrokeshire Leisure will be offering free health checks.

Councillor David Wildman, Cabinet Member for Adult Services and Care, said:

“Staying safe, active and healthy as we grow older is something we all aspire to.  We all value our independence and these full of life events will help us to achieve this.”

Meanwhile a new guide for older people will be launched at the Fishguard event.

Developed by Pembrokeshire County Council, Better Care and Support is aimed at people who want to continue to live full, independent and active lives – in spite of the difficulties that may arise because of age or disability.

It will be officially launched by Councillor David Wildman and Councillor Sian James, Cabinet Member for the Voluntary Sector, Health and Well-being.

The free guide will be available to members of the public from Pembrokeshire County Council, County Hall, Haverfordwest SA61 1TP by  phone 01437 764551 or email [email protected] and will shortly be available on the Council’s website www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/50plus
