Funding for classroom gaming innovations

Paul Peachey, Senior Lecturer in Small Business Enterprise at University of Glamorgan Business School has been granted funding for a project that will allow for more innovative teaching in the classroom.

The project, which recently gained its funding from the JISC ‘HEAT4’ initiative, involves the use of the commercial ‘Tycoon’ simulation game that will be temporarily uploaded onto the students’ personal laptops, these laptops are currently being used in tutorials for problem-based research exercises.

This funding will enable the purchase of 50 instances of the simulation game allowing students to challenge the game’s high difficulty scenario enabling the students to experience the tough decision-making processes that underpin entrepreneurial activity.

Currently undergraduate students studying the BA[Hons] Business Enterprise course and those studying the Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Management modules will benefit from this new funding.

Although only a model, the tutor will ensure that the experiential learning opportunities that the game offers are appropriately aligned with the learning objectives for the sessions.

Please visit our BA[Hons] Business Enterprise web page for more information regarding the course and its content.
