A group of young girls brought success to Gwynedd recently in the Urdd’s National Swimming Gala.
Siwan, Ela, Catrin and Mali who are pupils at Ysgol y Garnedd, Bangor managed to win the gold medal in the relay race for girls in year five and six in the swimming gala in Cardiff on Saturday 29 January 2011.
The girls won the regional heat in Bangor last November, with a time of 1:21:99 but the girls went much quicker to win the final in Cardiff by completing the relay in 1:17:79.
Dyfed Glyn Davies, Gwynedd Council’s Aquatic Development Officer said: “Many congratulations to the four of them for their success in the Urdd’s swimming gala in Cardiff. Schools from 17 regions in Wales competed in the final so it was quite a feat for the girls to win the gold medal.
“The girls trained hard for weeks in Bangor swimming pool under the supervision of pool staff, teachers and parents and everybody is very pleased that all of the their hard work paid off.”
