George: Ministers must break down recycling barriers

Commenting on the publication of a report by the Wales Audit Office, raising concerns about barriers to increasing recycling rates, Russell George AM, Shadow Minister for the Environment, said:

“While households across Wales have made significant strides in increasing recycling rates, this report highlights the obstacles to greater sustainability.

“While targets can have a role to play in identifying progress, there are concerns that the Welsh Government’s target-driven culture could actually hamper recycling efforts.

“Welsh Labour Ministers need to work more constructively with local authorities to help share best practice and promote efficient recycling methods to help deliver a more sustainable environment.”
