Commenting on tonight’s election results in Wales, Shadow Welsh Secretary Cheryl Gillan said:
“These are outstanding results. The only party to have made gains in Wales tonight is the Welsh Conservative Party. We now have more MPs in Wales than at any time since 1987.
“Labour can take no comfort from this result. Their share of the vote is at its lowest level in Wales since the days of Michael Foot.
“Plaid Cymru too has failed to make the gains they boldly predicted, while the Liberal Democrats have all but flatlined in Wales.
“These results show that the only party of positive progress and change in Wales is the Welsh Conservative Party.”
