Glad tidings and a TARDIS

TARDISA glowing TARDIS has landed on top of one of the towers of Caerphilly Castle as the town gears up for this weekend’s Medieval Christmas Fayre.

The BBC ‘Dr Who’ production team has constructed a giant platform to display the illuminated TARDIS to help celebrate the event and the unusual sight has become a major talking point in Caerphilly.

The Caerphilly Medieval Christmas Fayre takes place in the town this weekend (12th and 13th December) with plenty to offer visitors. The event promises to be bigger and better than ever before as the main street through the town centre will close to traffic to make room for over 60 stalls. The event will transform the town and castle into a Medieval Christmas wonderland where visitors can enjoy the sounds and smells of Christmas.

As well as the many stalls and attractions, a number of local shops in Caerphilly town centre are also supporting the Festive Fayre by offering a range of discounts to shoppers.

Special discount vouchers can be picked up from the Visit Caerphilly Centre (opposite Caerphilly Castle) from Saturday 12th December at 10am for use on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th December. Some stores are offering 5% or 10% off as well as many other special offers.

The shops involved include Castle Bikes, Covent Garden Flower Emporium, Phones 4U, Tenovus, Mayberry Pharmacy, Health With Herbs, Boots, Thomas Cook, Shop Physical and Hilary’s Florist. Terms and Conditions apply.

To make your day a relaxing, stress free experience, there is a free park & ride facility operating at the old St. Ilan’s School site on Pontygwindy Road. Cardiff Road will be closed for the duration of the event, with adequate diversions in place. The streets will be adorned with over 60 festive stalls along with plenty more stalls within the walls of Caerphilly Castle. A full entertainment programme has been arranged with jesters, jugglers and stiltwalkers.

Angela Gray, local cookery expert will be running cookery demonstrations in the Visit Caerphilly Centre, so come along for some useful tips on making your Christmas day menu extra special.
