Glyn Davies Officilally Opens Llanfechain ‘Community Shop’

Glyn Davies, Conservative MP for Montgomeryshire performed the official opening ceremony of the Llanfechain ‘Community Shop’ which is attached to the Village Hall on Saturday afternoon.

The development of the shop has been part of the wider renovation of the Village Hall which has taken place over the last two years.  The second phase of the Village Hall development has taken place over the last few months, and involves the fitting out and stocking of a redundant space which was ‘surplus to requirements’ for the main hall project.

Speaking before ‘cutting the ribbon’ to open the new community shop, Glyn Davies said;

“Its a wonderful achievement by the village of Llanfechain to complete such a comprehensive renovation of its Village Hall over the last two years, and even more impressive to fit out and stock a ‘community shop’ which is now open every day, and is manned wholly be volunteers. The new shop has returned services to Llanfechain which have been absent for 9 years, and has created a social ‘hub’ at the centre of the community.”

“We are all facing a difficult period in the UK, where Government simply does not have the money to maintain rural services in the way we have been used to. Volunteering is going to play an increasingly important role in delivering rural services, and the people of Llanfechain have provided a great example. Being asked to perform the opening ceremony was a huge pleasure for me”.
