Gnome Army Raises Money for War Heroes in Wrexham

A men’s fashion shop has recruited an army of gnomes to raise money for wounded ex-soldiers.

eThe designer gear store Chevron has opened up a new outlet at the Eagles Meadow shopping centre in Wrexham.

The business, that’s been based in Henblas Street for 20 years and has another branch in Shrewsbury, has come up with a novel idea to support the charity, Help for Heroes.

Proprietors Tim and Amanda Steele are running a name the gnome competition from early December until just before Christmas with a £50 voucher up-for-grabs for the winner.

Tim explained: “Designer clothing firm Firetrap supplied us with around 30 or 40 small gnomes and one large one some time ago as part of a promotion.

“They are all different colours and we have some of them as part of a window display in the Eagles Meadow  branch. They are a real talking point and we see lots of people stopping to look at them.

“We have decided to run a name the gnome competition which we will run right through December. We will have a list of names on a clipboard and anyone can, for a pound, have a go at guessing the name of the big gnome.

“All proceeds will go to the charity and whoever guesses the right name will win a £50 voucher that can be spent at any one of our Chevron stores.

“It’s a bit of fun and if we can raise moneyfor Help Fort Heroes it will certainly be worth it.”

A Help for Heroes spokesperson said: “We are grateful to the British public for doing their bit for our armed forces.

“This is a great example of someone having a fantastic idea and raising funds for so we can help our heroes.”

Tim added: “We are an established Wrexham business in fairness and have enjoyed a great deal of success at our Henblas Street store.

“However, Eagles Meadow has grown and footfall has really increased over the years. It is now an integral part of the Wrexham retail experience and we felt it was important to open a unit here.

“We are stocking all our top brands such as Penguin, Super-dry, G-Star, Firetrap, Jack & Jones and other designer names and I’m sure the store will prove a hit with all our regular and new customers.”

Eagles Meadow manager, Kevin Critchley says he was delighted to welcome Chevron to the shopping centre.

He said: “Tim and Amanda have built up Chevron into what is a respected local business and I am sure they will do really well at Eagles Meadow.

“Chevron is certainly a welcome addition to our range of stores here at Eagles Meadow and I have no doubt the outlet will be well received by our regular customers and visitors.

“The economic climate is improving and we are looking forward to a very busy Christmas period and new stores like Chevron will certainly add to the Eagles Meadow visitor experience.”
