Gold Star for Bryn Primary School

Bryn Primary School in Port Talbot has finished top of the class after their work in PE received a glowing report.

The school has secured the ActiveMarc Cymru awarded to schools that show a commitment to developing high quality PE and school sport.

Congratulating the pupils, Headteacher Janet Francis-Jones said, “This is a great achievement for Bryn Primary School and well deserved recognition for the school.

“Health and well being are high on our agenda for all pupils. PE and sport are being promoted at every opportunity through our involvement with Dragon Sports, after school sport club, PESS and Bike It.”

The Sports Council for Wales and the Association for Physical Education are championing schools which recognise the importance of PE.

Chair of the Sports Council for Wales, Professor Laura McAllister, said, “We believe that schools play an essential role in building a Wales in which children are hooked on sport for life.

“We are eager to celebrate and champion schools that are doing their bit and we hope that ActiveMarc Cymru provides a yardstick to measure good standards to which others can strive towards.”

A spokesperson for the Association for Physical Education, added, “There is a strong evidence that children who receive high quality PE within curriculum time, build a firm basis for future participation and achievement and also do better in the rest of their schooling.”
