An independent review of food enforcement services in Gwynedd has praised the level of service.
Gwynedd was one of ten Welsh councils selected for the recent focused audit on food law enforcement. The review which was undertaken by the Food Standards Agency in November 2009 states that relevant reports on food premises are well organised and comprehensive.
Councillor John R Jones, who leads on Public Protection matters for Gwynedd Council said: “This independent report confirms that Gwynedd Council’s Food Safety team is continuing to improve its performance. The positive comments presented by the Food Standards Agency are testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff.
“As stated by the auditors, our officers have developed a positive professional relationship with the county’s food premises which can only be a good thing to ensure that food standards throughout the county are maintained at a high level.
“There are of course places where we can improve and as a Council we are committed to delivering the very best service possible for Gwynedd’s residents and businesses.”
These reviews – undertaken by the Food Standards Agency – are part of its work to maintain and improve consumer protection and confidence by ensuring that local councils are providing an effective food law enforcement service. The audit examined Gwynedd Council’s official controls and food business operator controls in approved establishments.
