Good start to being good neighbours

Pictured are the children whose designs were included in the final poster, with (left to right) Peter Griffiths (Head Teacher), Trevor Andrews (Community Councillor), Rachel Gibby (Good Neighbours Scheme Coordinator), County Councillor David Pugh (Vice-Chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council) and Jo Pullen (Teacher).

Pupils at Stepaside CP School have helped to design an eye-catching poster to launch a new Kilgetty and Begelly Good Neighbours Scheme.

All the children over the age of five created their own poster, and elements from the best designs were combined to create the final print.

Certificates were presented to the pupils who took part by the scheme’s committee members, at a special assembly on Monday.

The committee, through the Older Persons Strategy’s intergenerational working, also donated £500 to the school in appreciation of their work. The funds are to be used in the school’s community involvement, undertaken as part of the curriculum.

The Good Neighbours Scheme is designed to bring together volunteers within the community to help others who are in need of assistance.

The Kilgetty /Begelly area is a pilot for the project, which will operate through a single phone number contact, and with the support of many volunteers offering their time within the community.

Details will shortly be available throughout the area and a meeting of committee and potential volunteers is to be held at the Community Centre at 7pm on Tuesday, 3rd August.

Anyone who is interested to learn more about the scheme or may be considering becoming a volunteer is welcome to attend.

If you live elsewhere in Pembrokeshire and are interested in such a scheme, please get in touch with the Good Neighbour Scheme Coordinator at Pembrokeshire County Council on 01437 764551.
