Graham: Carers are Unsung Welsh Heroes

William_Graham_AM_for_WalesSpeaking ahead of national Carers Rights Day, William Graham AM, Shadow Minister for Social Services, said:

“Carers are the biggest group of unsung heroes in Welsh society, who work tirelessly, often with little recognition, to look after family or friends.

“Carers Wales has highlighted the many financial sacrifices that many carers make to be able to care, including relying on overdrafts and cutting back on food and heating.

“The humanity of a society should be judged on how it treats its most vulnerable and in Wales we do not do enough to recognise and reward the role of carers, who ease pressure on the National Health Service and support patients at the height of their ill-health.

“On national Carers Rights Day, it is appropriate to consider how the Welsh Government can improve conditions for carers, recognise their tireless devotion and reward their kindness.”
