Graham: Job figures underline need to maximise return from Eisteddfod

Speaking in the Senedd this afternoon William Graham AM requested a statement on the 2010 National Eisteddfod. With the Eisteddfod due to be staged this summer at The Works, Ebbw Vale between 31st July and 7th August, he said:

‘Today’s news that unemployment in Wales now stands at 133,000 underlines the importance of maximising the economic and social opportunities offered by signature events such as this year’s Eisteddfod.’

The Conservative AM for South Wales East continued:

‘The news that £350,000 worth of contracts have initially been awarded to local businesses is encouraging, and it is essential that we see the greatest possible use and presence of local businesses and employers on the Maes this summer.’

‘In the current economic climate, it is doubly important that the Welsh Assembly Government markets the event intelligently so that the anticipated 160,000 visitors leave with an awareness of the skills and potential of people and businesses in Ebbw Vale and the Heads of the Valleys.’
