Green Flag Treasure Trail Competition

Do you fancy yourself as the Poirot of parks? The Bergerac of Bute or the Columbo of Cathays perhaps?

If so, your sleuthing skills can be put to the test on Cardiff Council’s treasure trail competition throughout the city’s top parks.

To celebrate the recent news of seven Cardiff parks winning the prestigious Green Flag Award, the council’s Parks Service is running a competition, sponsored by Complete Weed Control (South Wales), with some excellent cash prizes to be won.

The Green Flag treasure trail leads would-be sleuths around the city’s seven Green Flag Award-winning parks and asks a series of questions relating to those green spaces. There are 14 questions to answer, two each about particular features of the seven parks, for example ‘How much is cup of tea in the new Bute Park Summer Kiosk?’

The parks are Roath Park, Victoria Park, Grange Gardens, Bute Park, Cardiff Bay Barrage, Cathays Cemetery and Rumney Hill Gardens.

First prize in the competition is £150 with a second prize of £100,  £50 for third prize, two tickets for Cardiff RHS Show 2011 as fourth prize and a fifth prize of a sack of Cardiff daffodil bulbs.

The Green Flag is the UK national quality award scheme for parks and green spaces. Sites are independently assessed each year and the award of a Green Flag recognises their high quality and sustainable management.

Executive Member for Sport, Culture and Leisure, Cllr Nigel Howells, said:

“This is a wonderful way to celebrate the Green Flag award achievements for our city. Our parks offer a great opportunity to get citizens and communities from across Cardiff into our parks for their enjoyment and to improve their health. It is also a fantastic and free way to entertain the children during the summer holidays with some very good prizes to be won.”
