Nigel and Neville, the message-bearing sheep featured in Gren’s much loved cartoons, are helping to spread the word about Caerphilly County Borough Council’s new social media plans.
This week Caerphilly County Borough Council is launching an exciting new social media strategy which includes the use of Facebook and Twitter to communicate with local residents.
The cartoon characters are making a special appearance in a short promotional video that has been produced to highlight the council’s use of social media as a communications tool (CaerphillyCBC YouTube Channel).
The video will be posted on the council’s website as well as on YouTube (‘EweTube’ may be more of a fitting name in this instance!) They will also be appearing on posters and other promotional literature over the coming weeks as the scheme is rolled out across the area.
“Social media is now used by people of all ages in all sections of the community, so it is important that we can also join in with this online conversation,” said Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Chief Executive Anthony O’Sullivan. “We are keen to get as many people as possible to follow us and get all the latest council news and information direct to their PC, laptop or mobile phone.”
“The cartoon sheep we are using to promote the new scheme are instantly recognisable to fans of the cartoonist Gren, who was born and raised in Hengoed. We would like to thank Gren’s family for kindly allowing us to use the characters, as they will help promote the scheme and encourage local people to ‘follow’ us online,” he added.
The sheep will also appear on the front page of Caerphilly County Borough Council’s residents newsletter ‘Newsline’ when distribution starts this week.
