Gritters out in force in Pembrokeshire

Pembrokeshire County Council’s highway maintenance staff are being kept busy during this period of cold weather.

Council gritting lorries were out all over the weekend – including overnight – and will continue to operate as long as the cold weather lasts.

The Council has 11 full time gritters, which are all in operation at present, as well as a number of back up gritters should conditions worsen.

During periods of snow and low temperatures the Council has a policy of giving priority to key routes – ie those with high levels of traffic flow (around 585km) – and then treating secondary routes as quickly as resources allow.

The County Council’s salt stock levels are currently plentiful. They were full prior to the start of the winter season and we are replenishing as soon as they get below a certain level.
