Gwent Police Authority today (Tuesday 26 October) welcomed the publication of ‘Police Governance in Austerity’ a report by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC). The report shows that Gwent Police Authority was one of only four, out of 22 Police Authorities inspected, performing well in both setting strategic direction and ensuring value for money. Effective performance in both these functions is recognised as being critical given the financial challenges ahead.
Chair of the Police Authority, Cilla Davies commented:
“I welcome the findings of this inspection and am pleased that the hard work and dedication of the Police Authority members and staff has been recognised.
“Gwent Police authority plays an important role in deciding what the priorities should be for the Force and securing value for money. Whilst this work is recognised as being good in Gwent we will continue to strive for improvements and more cost effective ways of doing things.”
In addition to the positive comments about providing strategic direction and ensuring value for money the report recognises Gwent Police Authority for it’s collaboration work. The report outlines how the authority is an established user of collaborative arrangements provided by Value Wales, and continues to benefit from the work of the South West and Wales Regional Procurement Group. It provides details of collaboration partners including Newport Transport, Chepstow Town Council, the Forestry Commission and Coleg Gwent.
