Gwynedd backing Cara’s design

A pupil from Ysgol Llanaelhaearn is hoping that her artwork will help to win the school a brand-new minibus worth £30,000.

Nine-year-old Cara Haf Townend, who is a pupil at Ysgol Llanaelhaearn is one of just nine finalists from throughout the UK in the Berol by Papermate competition to win a 17-seater Ford Transit minibus.

Cara and Ysgol Llanaelhaearn now needs the support of local residents to make sure that Cara’s design for the exterior of the minibus comes out on top. If they win the online poll, her design along with the £30,000 minibus will be Ysgol Llanaelhaearn’s to keep.

Councillor Liz Saville Roberts, Gwynedd Council’s Education Portfolio Leader said:

“Many congratulations to Cara – reaching the final in a UK-wide competition for primary and secondary school pupils is a fantastic achievement. I’ll certainly be voting for Ysgol Llanaelhaearn in the competition, and I’d urge Gwynedd residents to back the bid for the top prize.”

Members of the public will be able to vote on the Berol by Papermate website: http://minibus.berol.co.uk/ between 1 and 11 December. The design with the most votes by midnight on 11 December will be the winner. To vote for Cara’s design, click “June”.

Ysgol Llanaelhaearn headteacher, Sianelen Pleming is hoping that local residents will help to ensure that Cara’s design gets top billing.

She said: “We’re so proud of Cara and delighted that she has got this far in the competition – she is the only pupil from Wales through to the final. We now urge everyone to vote for her entry and help us win the minibus – it would be so useful for the school.”

As a finalist, Cara has already received £1,000 worth of writing and colouring products for her fellow pupils plus a £100 Toys R Us voucher.

“I was so surprised to find out that I’d reached the final. I hope that local people will vote for our design and help us win the first prize – it would be amazing to have my picture on our minibus,” Cara said.

Voting for a favourite Berol Minibus design is limited to one vote per unique Internet Protocol (IP) Address. The minibus competition had been organised through Berol by Papermate’s popular Teachers’ Club, which provides resources to help teachers plan their creative lessons.
