Gwynedd business community get together

It has been confirmed that the Gwynedd Business Week will take place between 17-21 May this year.

Now in its fifth year, Gwynedd Business Week has become an important opportunity for the business community to get together to exchange ideas, debate important business issues, take advantage of many free seminars and workshops and celebrate success.

While the Gwynedd Business Awards, which take place every two years, will not return until 2011, the highlight of this year’s Gwynedd Business Week will be the annual Gala Dinner. Plas Glynllifon near Caernarfon has been selected as the venue for this prestigious event on Friday evening, 21 May. This year’s guest speaker will be John Jermine, Chair of Ryder Cup Wales 2010.

Born and educated in Wales, Mr Jermine, a Chartered Accountant, began his career in Cardiff with the Western Mail and Echo. He stayed within International Thomson for 12 years becoming Chairman of their Educational Publishing Division.

In 1983 he joined ADT plc, a £1 billion multinational business, and was appointed their Operations Director, eventually moving to NSM plc, a coal mining company with interests in the UK and USA, where he became Chairman. From 1997 until 2004, when he retired, he managed the investments and the administration of a large private estate.

As his current role would suggest, he is also passionate about golf and an accomplished golfer himself. Indeed, he represented Wales at international level between 1972 and 2000, the year he won the Welsh Amateur Championship at Royal St David’s, Harlech. He was non-playing captain of the Welsh Boys team from 1990-1992 and of Wales from 1993-1995 and under his captaincy Wales won their first-ever international tournament, the Men’s European Team Championships, in the Czech Republic, in 1993.

A spokesperson on behalf of Gwynedd Business Week said:

“We are delighted that Mr Jermine has agreed to be our guest speaker at the Gala Dinner. The scope of his business background, together with his important role as Chair of Ryder Cup Wales, is sure to make fascinating listening.”

There will also be over 15 other events taking place across the county throughout the week and further details of all these events will soon be announced on the Gwynedd Business Week website, www.gwyneddbusinessweek.co.uk.

Gwynedd Council’s head of Economy and Community, Sioned Williams, said:

Gwynedd Business Week is a fantastic opportunity to promote and celebrate the vast array of successful businesses operating throughout the county. Now in its fifth year, it has become a firm favourite in the Gwynedd business calendar.

“As well as being a platform to celebrate the best examples of success among the county’s businesses, this year’s Business Week will also help Gwynedd’s businesses to become stronger during what is a challenging period. A series of events will be on offer throughout the county, with networking opportunities and practical help and advice on offer.”
