Gwynedd Council elects new Chairman

At the annual Gwynedd Council meeting on 13 May, Councillor John Gwilym Jones (Llanengan) was elected as Gwynedd Council Chairman, and Councillor Richard Leonard Jones as Vice-Chairman.

Born and bred in Cilan, Abersoch, Councillor Jones graduated from the University of Wales, Bangor.

As he was elected as Gwynedd Council Chairman, Councillor John Gwilym Jones said:

“It is a great privilege to have been elected Chairman of Gwynedd Council. I will do my best to serve all the county’s residents during the year ahead.”

A Gwynedd Councillor since 2004, Cllr Jones has been a Community Councillor for 30 years and has been Chairman of the Abersoch Lifeboat Station for the last 25 years.

He is married to Wendy and they have a son and daughter and a young granddaughter.

Councillor Richard Leonard Jones (Deiniolen) was elected as Vice-Chairman. He has been a member of Gwynedd Council since 1996.
