Gwynedd Council has decided not to increase the level of fees set for berths at its marinas at Hafan Pwllheli and Doc Fictoria in Caernarfon for 2010/11.
Due to the effects of the economic climate, the need to demonstrate appreciation to existing berth holders, the Council has decided that berthing fees for both marinas will not rise for the 2010/11. The only difference will be in the reintroduction of the 17.5% rate of VAT.
Councillor Roy Owen, who leads on Maritime and Country Parks matters for Gwynedd Council said:
“Both Hafan Pwllheli and Doc Fictoria in Caernarfon are first-class sailing and boating facilities which have consistently been awarded the prestigious, and independently assessed International Blue Flag Award and Five Anchors Awards.
“We realise that both facilities are also vitally important to locally-based companies, and the local economy. It is important that we do all we can to support Gwynedd businesses during the current economic downturn and this is why we have taken the positive decision not to increase the fees at Hafan Pwllheli and Doc Fictoria for the forthcoming year.”
Barry Davies, Gwynedd Council’s Maritime and Country Parks Officer added:
“The facilities at Hafan Pwllheli and Doc Fictoria in Caernarfon are amongst the best in the country, and we are proud of the service we offer to our customers.
“However, we also understand that the difficult economic situation means that people have to prioritise their expenditure, and that is why the Council has decided not to increase the level of fees for berth holders for 2010/11. We hope this decision will not only be of benefit to berth holders at both marinas, but will also provide a boost to local maritime companies and the local economy in general.”
