Gwynedd School meals competition

Children across Gwynedd’s schools have been taking part in a competition describing eating and living healthily.

The winning entries will be used to encourage school children to enjoy fresh fruit and vegetables throughout the school day as part Gwynedd Council’s commitment to promoting the Welsh Assembly Government’s “Appetite for Life” strategy.

More than 300 entries were received from pupils across the county, with two winning entries from the Arfon, Dwyfor and Meirionnydd areas. The winners have been announced as part of National School Meals week (8-11 November).

Councillor Eric Jones, Gwynedd Council Portfolio Leader for Provider Services said:

“Promoting the important this important message of eating healthily and living a healthy life is a priority for the Council, and schools across the county are supporting the campaign to underline the importance of eating healthy food.

“It is wonderful to see pupils across Gwynedd supporting the campaign. Many congratulations to everyone of the children who took part in the competition and particularly to the winners.”

The children who came out on top have won a digital camera as a prize which was provided by Harlech Foodservice.

The winning pupils are:

Arfon:
Erin Williams, Year 3, Ysgol y Gelli, Caernarfon
Nia Brown, 10 years old, Ysgol Waunfawr

Dwyfor:
Lois Ann Williams, Year 5,  Ysgol Borth y Gest
Steven Roberts, Ysgol Hafod Lon, Y Ffor

Meirionydd:
Meleri Ellis Hughes, Year 4, Ysgol Bro Tryweryn, Bala
Eward Hughes, Year 4, Ysgol Bryncrug
