Gwynedd takes enforcement action

The owner of a property in Caernarfon has received a financial penalty of £930 after he pleaded guilty before the Magistrate Court in the town for failing to comply with a Statutory Notice for him to restore the condition of the building.

Alan Huxley-Jones from 3 Penrallt Isaf, Caernarfon pleaded guilty for failing to comply with a notice to carry out work to upgrade the condition of a property he owns. He received a fine of £600, ordered to pay £315 of costs, with a victim surcharge of £15.

At the hearing on 28 April, the magistrates noted that Mr Huxley-Jones had 28 days to carry out the necessary work on the property at 1 Penrallt Isaf, Caernarfon. If he does not complete the work, he will receive a fine for every additional day that the work will take to complete.

Aled Davies, Head of Gwynedd Council’s Regulatory Department said: “It’s unfortunate that the Council has to take these kinds of steps in order to ensure that property owners behave in a responsible manner and make sure that they take care of their buildings.

“Before presenting a case to court, the Council contacts the property owner to explain the concerns regarding the state of the building and we give them time to carry out the necessary work. But in this case, the property owner showed no sign of intention to undertake the work; therefore the Council had no choice but to demand in court that the repair work to the building be carried out immediately.”
