Hair & Beauty students start Christmas in style

Hair & Beauty students at Pontypool Campus got creative with a festive theme when they showcased their skills in cutting, colouring, styling and makeup for Winter Wonderland – their end of term show.

The learners’ designs took the audience through a festive journey from Christmas Eve through to Hogmanay in a celebration of Christmas time.  Both full and part time students, including school links learners from West Monmouth and Croesyceiliog Schools, were judged in the competition by stylists from local salons including Geoff Tozer from Goldwell, Valerie Southgate and Richard Kerr of JJ Hair Studio who has himself won a number of competitions on regional, national and international levels.

Sustainability was a key factor throughout the show with designs including recycled boxes, hair cuttings, paper and clothing all used in the designs of the models.

Students from Art & Design and Construction at the Campus also helped bring the show to life by designing and constructing the set.

Helen Morgan, Head of School for Wellbeing at Pontypool Campus said:  “There was an outstanding atmosphere of autonomy and teamwork.  Every learner achieved an assessment as part of their course in addition to the competition. We are all extremely proud of the learners and their creations.  They were an asset to the staff and the College.

“The Campus’s salons have recently been rebranded as Styleworks so anyone wanting to come and check out the new-look salons can get treatments at great prices, a fab way to ease yourself into the New Year with an added bonus of 20% throughout January.”

All proceeds and donations for the show will go towards Latch, the children’s cancer charity.

Partners have been key in the students’ success.  These include Goldwell, Hair International at Cwmbran, Aston & Fincher, The Body Shop and Ashley Daniels Salon.
