Hat-trick of honours for Ynysddu

Three residents of the small mining village of Ynysddu have been recognised in the New Years Honours List.

John and Patricia Bonthron have been recognised as Fostering Carers for their Services to Children.

Eirwen Griffth Roberts has been recognised for her services to the community of Ynysddu.

Allan Pritchard, Plaid leader of Caerphilly Council said: “I am delighted that these unsung heroes of the community of Ynyddu had now been publicly recognised for their unstinting work over many years.”

Local ward councillor Don Cullen added: “These are people of the community and not the highly paid actors and footballers that we hear so much about.

He added: I am sure that everyone from the village of Ynysddu will feel proud that ‘their’ neighbours have been honoured in this way.”
