Have a Wild Weekend in Abergavenny

MonmouthshireAbergavenny’s keen gardeners have an opportunity to pass on their skills and knowledge to the younger generation this weekend when the local Transition Town group plants wild flowers in the castle grounds to attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

As well as wildlife the scheme will be much appreciated by the town’s visitors who enjoy relaxing and strolling in this popular area.

Funded by Keep Wales Tidy’s Wild Weekend scheme the project has involved a range of partners including Abergavenny Museum and Castle, Incredible Edibles Abergavenny, Bee Friendly Monmouthshire, Abergavenny and Crickhowell Friends of the Earth and Abergavenny Community Orchard.  Wildflower seeds and tools were purchased from local business Abergavenny Garden Centre at Llanfoist.

Monmouthshire Youth Service and Abergavenny’s youth and adult learning centres also play a part as the project presents a chance for young people and school children to become involved and learn about gardening.

Volunteers are asked to come to Abergavenny Castle on Saturday 29th March from 11am to 3pm or on Sunday 30th March from noon to 3pm bringing their own tools. Organisers will provide drinks and biscuits. While gardening expertise is optional enthusiasm will be absolutely essential!
