Have your say – new service for Gwynedd’s children and young people

Children and young people sometimes find it difficult to know how to voice their complaints or opinions, this can be especially true when it comes to concerns about the services available to them.

A new service will soon be available to children and young people under the age of 25 living in Gwynedd, which will make sure that their voices are heard.

Clust i’r Ifanc will give young people the chance to speak to a friendly person to voice their complaints, opinions and suggestions about services they use in Gwynedd. They can also speak to this officer to request a new service that is not currently available in their area.

The Clust i’r Ifanc service will take their comments on board and use their knowledge and expertise to pass on the request or concern to the relevant people.

Councillor Brian Jones, who leads on matters concerning children and young people on Gwynedd Council, said:

“Children and young people need our help and support to make their way in the world, children who are listened to are more likely to grow up to be confident and well adjusted adults.

“Contacting any service provider to discuss an issue or to voice a concern can be a daunting prospect especially for a young person, maybe more so if they don’t know who they should contact or how to express their feelings.”

Iwan Trefor Jones, the chairman of Gwynedd Ni, Gwynedd’s children and young people’s services, added:

“This new service by Gwynedd Ni means that there will be someone available to young people who understands them, and is best placed to pass on their concerns and comments to the right service departments.”

This new service will be launched on Thursday, 8 July at a special free evening for children and young people at Plas Silyn Leisure Centre, Penygroes from 5.30pm onwards.

There will be a dance demonstration, activities and refreshments and a prize will be presented by a special guest to the young person who came up with the name for the new service. There will also be a chance to take part in some 5×60 activities from 7pm to 9pm. The event is open to all young people and parents from Gwynedd.
