Ahead of a debate in the Senedd on funding for road building, Chris Franks AM has highlighted that improvements for the Heads of the Valleys Road are still on track.
The A465 Heads of the Valleys road provides a strategic link for the northern Valleys. The dualling of the route will be completed by 2020.
The Plaid Cymru AM said: “The Heads of the Valleys road is an important route and I want to see improvements as soon as possible. The timetable for completion of the duelling of the A465 is still on track, with a completion date of 2020. Previously the target was vague and unfinanced.
Since Plaid has been in power funding has been guaranteed. Welsh Transport Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones has worked hard to ensure the success of this scheme. The Finance committee received clear evidence that he overcome these difficulties. I am delighted that a Plaid Transport Minister has shown such commitment to the Head of the Valleys road.
“Slippage in the past is a direct result of funding issues. Plaid is campaigning for fairer funding for Wales so we can get the money we deserve based on need rather than on our population.”
The debate will take place on Wednesday 10th March. The timetable for the dualling of the A465 Heads of the Valleys road from Brynmawr to Tredegar, and start from Gilwern to Brynmawr, is completion by 2014, and the remaining sections from Dowlais Top to the A470, and from A470 to Hirwaun, by 2020.
