Heatwave is hot news for tourism

The heatwave has provided a boost  for tourism in North Wales.

With temperatures soaring to 27 degrees on Friday,  the region was two degrees hotter than the Greek capital of Athens.

The glorious sunshine was great news for Tourism Partnership North Wales, who are responsible for the development of the visitor economy in North Wales.

Neil Rowlands, Chair of Tourism Partnership,  said: “North Wales is always a fantastic place to come and visit and this glorious sunshine is a fantastic bonus.

“Our profile is already sky high thanks to  certain royal couple who have made their home on Anglesey and the Lonely Planet guide has decreed that Wales is the world’s greatest region in a best-in-travel 2012 guide following the completion of the All Wales Coast Path.

“We’re close to nearly a quarter of the UK population here in North Wales so we are an ideal place for people to escape to.

“We have 16 million people on our doorstep and there’s a strong tradition of people coming here from Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Stoke.”

“This weekend is a great opportunity to enjoy  our fantastic  coastline and countryside.

“We have a huge range of things to do and see in a small geographic area, making us the perfect destination.

“Why on earth would you want to go to Athens or anywhere else  for that matter with everything we have to offer in North Wales?”
