Helfa Gelf / Art Trail changes artists’ life

Helfa Gelf /Art Trail, North Wales biggest Open studio event, is happening again this September, with 125 studios all over the region opening their doors.

Members of the public get to visit artists in their studios and watch them create their work be it baskets, pottery and jewellery or paintings and sculpture.

The project, now in its fifth year, has had a huge impact on the local arts community.

Lisa Carter, a painter and mum of 3 from Llannefydd, Conwy, told us:

“Helfa Gelf /Art Trail has made a massive difference to my career. Having moved up here from London I started painting again, but was finding it hard to get contacts. Another artist friend of mine was in Helfa Gelf and it made a huge difference to her, so I thought I would give it a try.

As well as having lots of visitors and selling 1000’s of pounds worth of work in the years I have taken part, some curators came to my studio last year and I was offered a solo show at Oriel Ffin y Parc in Llanrwst, which sold incredibly well .

Helfa Gelf /Art Trail has definitely raised my profile as an artists and has aided my professional development immensely, as well as introducing me to fellow artists, curators and funders.”

Helfa Gelf /Art Trail runs from the 10-12th, 17-19th and 24-26th September in Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire and Flintshire.  Studios are open from 11am-5pm daily. For further details about the event, maps and information about the artists please visit the website at www.helfagelf.co.uk

This project has received funding through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013 which is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and the European Agricultural fund for Rural Development.
