Library staff in Gowerton have spoken of their sadness after vandals damaged their community building last week.
The staff, who help provide a free service to thousands of people in the nearby area, have called for those responsible for attacking their library to return the signage they ripped from the outside of the building.
The vandal attack took place on the evening of Friday, November 20 and comes within months of a major £72,000 upgrade of the library to benefit all ages and interests in the community.
Thousands of new books, CDs and DVDs were introduced during the refurbishment as well as new furniture and shelving for the use of community clubs and groups.
A new children’s area was also added as part of the makeover.
Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, is calling on help from the community to shame the vandals.
Cllr Thomas said: “It’s beyond my comprehension why people would attack a building that provides a free and enormously useful service to the community in Gowerton.
“The library has been hugely popular since the refurbishment and offers services that appeal to all ages and interests in the community.
“Staff and library users are shocked and saddened by the vandal attack because they’ve contributed so much to making the library a heartbeat of the community it serves.
“The vandals should be ashamed of themselves.”
Anyone with information about who may be responsible is asked to contact the police.
