Holyhead Cadets visit Coastguard

A group of Holyhead Volunteer Police Cadets paid a special visit to the Coastguard last night (Tuesday, 19th January).

The visit, which was arranged by local Community Beat Manager PC Dave Owens and Dave Brewer of the Holyhead Cliff Rescue, involved nine of the cadets meeting some of the team at Holyhead Coastguard.

PC Owen, who assists with the running of the Cadet scheme on Anglesey said: “They received an insight into the work of rescue co-ordination on the North Wales coastline at their control centre, and then received an input on the volunteer rescue teams and their role from Al Simms and Dave Brewer from the Holyhead Cliff Rescue Team.

“They all really enjoyed their visit and have hopefully come away with a better understanding of the valuable work the Coastguard undertake.”

The Cadets were accompanied by PC Owens and PC Darren Groome.

  • The Cadet pilot scheme started in June 2007, when 60 young people from across North Wales embarked on the two year training and development programme.

  • During holidays and weekends they will take part in crime prevention initiatives, police training events, community projects, test purchasing and events such as Remembrance Day.
