A newspaper for youngsters in Pembrokeshire has won a top youth award.
The Zone beat off 75 other contenders to be honoured in this year’s Youth Work in Wales Excellence Awards.
Written and designed by young people themselves, the newspaper has also been shortlisted for the Premier Award.
A presentation ceremony is due to take place on November 1st at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
“I’m delighted The Zone has won this award”, said Councillor Islwyn Howells, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Children, Young People and the Welsh Language. “It reflects all the hard work of the youngsters involved and in particular its young editorial team.”
Launched last year, The Zone is aimed at teenagers between 11 and 18 and is produced three times a year to coincide with school terms.
Produced by the Young Persons Partnership and backed by Pembrokeshire County Council, the bilingual paper aims to let youngsters know what is going on across the County and what services are available for them. It is distributed through schools, youth clubs and leisure centres.
The Youth Work in Wales Excellence Awards are designed to recognise excellent work with young people and to promote such work in Wales.
