Aberdare’s Huwy the Tramp has been jailed for six weeks after breaching his ASBO.
The 44-year-old, real name Michael Williams, appeared before Aberdare Magistrates’ Court this month charged with breach of ASBO, after he was caught in possession of an opened can of lager and also being disorderly in a Chinese takeaway.
Because the incidents were direct breaches of the terms of his ASBO, Williams, of no fixed abode, was immediately sent to prison.
Without the ASBO in place, partner agencies working to protect the public from Williams’ inappropriate and intimidating behaviour would not have the legal grounds to secure his imprisonment.
The offences would have had to have been dealt with through the normal criminal justice route, with Williams arrested, charged and then dealt with at a later court appearance.
Partners secured an ASBO at the end of January placing strict sanctions on the behaviour and movement of Williams as a result of his ongoing unacceptable behaviour and offending, all of which is alcohol-related.
Scores of complaints of sexual harassment, trying to touch women and being verbally suggestive to them led to the order being secured.
