Improving services for library users

Treorchy-based librarian Richard Reed has been recognised for his achievements in delivering training to Library staff in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

‘Frontline’ is a training package used by librarians across the UK, and Richard was given the Frontline Trainee of the month award for his work. The focus of the Frontline training was reader development work to help library staff recommend more books to customers and present stock more effectively.

One librarian who completed the training said: “The changes we made have resulted in many more borrowers using the quick pick and returns areas in our libraries.”

Cllr Robert Bevan, Rhondda Cynon Taf Cabinet Member for Culture and Recreation, said: “We are always pleased to see new initiatives that improve our service to our customers. Congratulations to Richard for his efforts.”

Another new service is also now available at main libraries. Aberdare, Treorchy and Pontypridd Libraries are now offering a new colour photocopying service to customers. Photocopying costs 50p a sheet for A4 and £1.00 for A3.

Membership of all Rhondda Cynon Taf’s libraries is free and everyone living or working within the county borough is welcome to join. Find out more by visiting www.rhondda-cynon-taff.gov.uk/libraries
